How To Choose Sliding Closet Doors For Your Bedroom

Now that you have decided that you want to install sliding closet doors in your bedroom, you still have quite a few decisions to make regarding materials, style and design.  You probably assume that this is a super easy diy project (which it is) however, you are sure to feel overwhelmed when you get ready to buy your kits or raw material and realize what a huge industry this really is.  So, with all of these designs available, how do you decide?

Things to Consider?

You should take your closet size, bedroom style and your overall goals into consideration.  Do you already have older sliding doors there that you are looking to replace?  If so, perhaps you can use the tracks as a guideline to help with your install.  Below are some other questions to ask yourself.

•    Do you like the look of louvered doors or do you prefer something smooth?

•    Do you have a full length mirror in your bedroom or would mirrored doors be a welcome edition?

•    Do you have a theme in your bedroom?  There's no point in going and buying contemporary doors if you have a country-cottage, white wicker look going on in your room.  It doesn't matter if you find some on sale super cheap, stick with your plan or else you will end up looking at something everyday that you are not happy with.

What Door Types To Use?

When you go to buy sliding wardrobe door kits, you will find that they are available in a few different styles.  In general, wardrobe doors come in four varieties being bifold, swinging, accordion or sliding.  The traditional sliding systems are the most popular because you can access your whole closet and they free up a lot of space in your room.  Not to mention, they look great!

It is recommended to opt for a design that will slide on a track right into the wall.  This way, you can view your entire wardrobe at one time without having to slide the doors to the other end.

Quality sliding closet doors can really give your bedroom a much needed face lift.  They can help decrease the amount of time that you spend getting ready everyday because everything is more accessible to you and you won't have to worry about hitting the bed with the door in your tiny room because they provide you with a lot more usable space.

It It Worth Considering Custom Made?

This really depends on your budget to put it simply. If you are looking to save as much money as possible, then installing a sliding closet door kit from Home Depot is going to be your best bet. If you are looking for something to match the décor of your home, or if you want something made out of a very specific wood other than timber such as cedar or oak, then it will be worth going to a custom door maker.

Now don’t get me wrong, not all door makers are going to charge an arm and a leg – generally it depends on the type of wood you are after, and which country you are living in. Some countries need to import certain types of woods, and hence the prices can be drastically more expensive. An example is to compare the costs of luxury woods in Australia as opposed to England. A piece of quality oak which might make a very suitable closet door will cost almost double in Australia.

Sliding doors are perfect for bedrooms, especially when you are dealing with a tight space. The only issue sometimes can be installing them because the roller can slip off if you don't do it right. We discovered this the hard way, but now it is finally time to get new ones so we will get it right this time.

We were looking at designs for our bedroom when I realized that we still had to find a unique way to incorporate sliding doors. The wardrobe was in such a bad place that I wanted to minimize it while still being very artistic. Now I've got some thoughts about how to do it.

When I finally got around to install the track for the sliding door in the bedroom, I almost had to build the whole thing new again because it was just an odd size. Apparently whoever did this house did not know how to make a straight line up and down.

Closet doors really have changed a lot over the years. I saw this Shoji panel that I really like, but there are so many other designs I would enjoy too. We are remodeling the space, and it's hard to pin down just one style that we can use throughout the room.

Putting in the roller and steel part of the closet doors turned out to be such a difficult task. However, I'm glad that I stuck with the overall design of the room because they do look great. There is just something to be said about sticking with your gut during the process.

Wardrobe doors can be such a pain. I almost considered removing them completely, but I realized that there were plenty of designs to choose from if we got some new ones. Now we just have to nail down which particular kind, and we'll be able to improve the space drastically.

One morning after being hit with the closet door one too many times, my girlfriend and I decided to either install sliding wardrobe entries or move. We went with a design which looked like a shoji which was a huge improvement over the old door.
